“IT or not IT?” Reaching our goals equipped with ICT tools

Interaktivnu nastavu i učenje kroz e-learning platforme stoga će kreirati sami učenici. Oni će stvoriti multimedijske nastavne materijale - karte, planove, prezentacije, video, blogove, foto blogove, ankete i drugo.

- razviti vještine rada u timu i projektu europskog konteksta.

Nastavnici će:

- steći nove kompetencije i nastavne metode bazirane na informacijskim tehnologijama putem razmjene iskustava i ideja s drugim nastavnicima

- razviti suradnički pristup procesu učenja i poučavanja

- steći nove alate za stvaranje podržavajućeg okruženja za učenje

- koristiti u širem opsegu eTwinning platforme

- steći nova iskustava u interkulturalnom obrazovanju i proširiti svoje vidike kroz europsku suradnju

- kroz svoje iskustvo potaknuti i druge nastavnike da sudjeluju u europskim projektima

- razvijati nastavničke, jezične, socijalne, menadžerske kompetencije.

Institucija (škola) će:

- razvijati i jačati međunarodnu suradnju

- razvijati inovativne modele i mogućnosti suradnje unutar tradicionalnih metoda poučavanja

The presence of new technologies in contemporary life is undeniable, and the schools, equipped with information and communication technology tools, are making every possible effort to prepare young people to use these tools efficiently. However, at the same time, many schools try to deal with increasing numbers of youths suffering from illiteracy, low basic skills and a low level of social participation. Young people are skilful with new technology, yet not conscious of how to use it for their own benefit to develop knowledge, social and personal skills. There is often a gap between the availability of digital equipment in schools and its effective use in the classroom for teaching and learning

The schools working on this specific project are of different backgrounds, experience and with a different ICT basis. However, while discussing the idea of the project, we discovered, that we have the same needs: to develop the ICT literacy, language and social skills of our students and make them more sustainable. Even if our schools are quite well equipped with ICT devices, they are not being used to their full potential, teachers often run out of ideas, or do not have an overview of what useful tools are available and how to use them.

This led us to the conclusion that both teachers and students can benefit from the project: we will increase the use of new technology by sharing efficient ICT-education methods and develop the social and personal skills of the students through interactive and cooperative activities. This will make them aware of how important personal and social development is and how they can use IT tools they feel comfortable with, to make their learning process effective, easier and more successful. Interactive lessons and learning through e-learning platforms will therefore be enriched by the students themselves. They will create multimedia teaching materials - maps, plans, presentations, videos, blogs, photo blogs, surveys and others. In addition, the students will participate in virtual tours and unconventional lessons based on a combination of different disciplines (sports, Maths, Art, language learning). They will use and investigate interesting tools, on the internet, tablets, interactive boards, and smart phones.

It is believed that the project will address several needs of the students, the teachers and the institutions.

Students’ needs to be addressed are:

-       to know how ICT tools can be used for better school achievements

-       to increase their level of digital competence

-       to acquire wider knowledge of how to manage their own personal development

-       to find motivation to attend lessons on a regular basis

-       to develop language skills and to get to know peers from other countries

-       to be more active members of society

-       to experience other educational and cultural environments and benefit from the European diversity

-       to have the opportunity to gain knowledge, abilities and experience that will benefit and help them in a permanently changing society

-       to develop skills in project and collaborative work within the European context.

The teachers’ needs to be addressed are:

-       to acquire new ICT-based competencies and teaching methods by means of exchanging experience and ideas with other teachers

-       to develop a cooperative approach to the teaching and learning process

-       to gain new tools for creating a student-supportive learning environment

-       to use to a wider extent the  eTwinning platform

-       to gain new experience in intercultural education and broaden their horizons through European collaboration

-       through their experience stimulate other teachers to take part in European projects

-       development of teaching, language, social, managerial competence

The institutions’ needs to be addressed are:

-       to develop and strengthen international cooperation

-       to promote the European dimension of the institutions in order to attract students to enrol and to attend the schools and improve its image in the eyes of the local community

-       to promote active teaching and learning, ICT-based methods and the social inclusion of youths

-       develop innovative and cooperative approaches inside the traditional methods of teaching

-       develop closer links between school communities across Europe through this and follow-up projects.
